MATH CLASS NORMS

A – AROUND HERE, WE GIVE 100% EFFORT –

I actively participate in class.  I am a great student.  I take neat notes and complete all assignments, projects, quizzes, and tests in a timely manner and to the best of my ability.  I struggle to understand difficult concepts and ideas. My perseverance and determination allow me to overcome any challenge.  I am a great learner.

B – AROUND HERE, WE MODEL POSITIVE BEHAVIOR –

I come to school prepared to be a good student.  I am prepared for class.  My pencils are sharpened.  My notes, hand-outs, and blank paper are neatly organized in my binder.  I take restroom breaks when they do not disrupt my learning or the classes I am in.  I sit quietly, prepared to learn, at the start of class, so that no time is wasted.  I am a model student.

C – AROUND HERE, WE CONFRONT NEGATIVE BEHAVIOR –

Since I do not want to interrupt the learning process, I only confront behaviors that are disruptive to the class.  When I need to confront, I raise my hand and ask for permission to confront others.  Other normative violations can be confronted at the end of class.  I am here to learn.  My classmates do not have the right to interfere in my education by disrupting my class with negative behavior.  It is my right and responsibility to confront.

D – AROUND HERE, WE USE TIME WISELY –

I do my class work promptly.  If I have completed my class work, I will use my time to study or work on sanctions.  I do not lay my head down or sleep during school.  I am here to learn and need to use my time here to my best advantage.  Time, once wasted, can never be regained.

E – AROUND HERE, WE EARN OUR GRADE –

I do not expect a free ride.  I am here to learn.  My grade in math is determined by the amount of points I earn.  Class work and class participations is worth 10 points.  Quizzes are worth 20 points.  Tests are worth 40 points.  If I am given the opportunity to resubmit (Re) an assignment – after correcting my mistakes – I will do so.  To pass up an opportunity to fix my errors and learn from my mistakes, would be foolish.  If the class does an assignment on the board, I will get all of the problems done on the board correct.  If I do not, it means I wasted my time, did not pay attention in class, and did not respect the teacher.  I will get a good grade by being a good student.

F – AROUND HERE, THERE ARE NO UNEXCUSED ABSCENCES –

If I place myself in exclusion – on my own or through my behavior – I cannot be a good student.  If I routinely miss school due to “Illness”, I cannot be a good student.  I can expect my grade to reflect this.  I am responsible for learning what I missed.  I will get notes I missed from students I know to be good students.  I will make up tests on my own time.  I will come to school everyday and actively participate so that I may be the best student possible.

G – AROUND HERE WE RESPECT PROPERTY, PEERS, AND STAFF –

I do not distract others from learning.  I do not demean other students who may be struggling harder to learn what I find less difficult.  Nor will I ridicule those who find the work easier than I.  I will stay in my seat during class.  I will raise my hand to be recognized – to ask questions or confront others.  I do not shout-out, make odd noises, or engage in other distracting and disrespectful behaviors.  I will encourage others to do well.  I am respectful of others and myself and will endeavor to be a good student.
