Hi, I'm Mr. Eck

My Dad and I at my Naval Boot Camp Graduation.

Sometimes it's easier to connect with students if they know a little about the teacher as a person. On this page I will tell you a little bit about myself.

I am originally from Pennsylvania, but have lived in Florida, Idaho, and Washington.  I grew up in Avis and went to school at Jersey Shore.  Jersey Shore is a town similiar to Milton and the schools have the same colors - Orange and Black.  I graduated from Jersey Shore in 1983.

I joined the Boy Scouts in the mid seventies.  The summer of 1980 I took a job as a 'kitchen boy' at the local scout camp, Camp Karoondinha, and worked there every summer through the eighties (with the exception of 1988, when I worked at Camp Freedom in Germany).  In 1989 and 1990 I served as the Camp Director of Camp Karoondinha.

In 1990 I joined the United States Navy as a Nuclear Reactor Operator.  While serving, I participated in the first gulf war, the Haiti blockade, cuban refugee retrieval, and Drug Ops.  The Navy allowed me to visit Australia, Africa, and South America.

When I completed my military commitment, I returned to Pennsylvania.  I studied at Bloomsburg University and returned to Camp Karoondinha in the summer to direct it for three more summers.

After graduating from Bloomsburg, I was employed by the YMCA for a year.  After that I worked as a Theraputic Support Staff for a local agency.  In the Fall of 2005 I accepted my current position with Bethesda.

Several years ago I was requested, by a youth in the care of the county, to become a foster parent.  I did so and served as his foster father.  Eventually I adopted this young man.  I continue to serve as a foster home for Bethesda.

I am very content with where life has taken me.  I often feel guided by forces outside of my control and believe I am doing what God has intended me to do.  I find immense satisfaction being a member of the Bethesda Family as both a teacher and a foster parent.
